My Neighbourhood | Tamsin Greenway on Guildford

Tasmin Greenway

Former England netball star and Surrey Storm coach Tamsin Greenway gives us the lowdown on her favourite places in and around Pirbright and Guildford in Surrey….

HOME IS… Pirbright, with my two-and half- year-old daughter Jamie. We only moved out of London to the countryside recently.

WORK IS… Varied. I coach Netball Superleague team Surrey Storm in Guildfoshutterstock_11199952rd and work in netball across the region, from community to elite level. I also do TV work with Sky Sports and I’m an ambassador for GilbertMrs Crimbles and Dukes Sport. So I’m kept pretty busy!

MOST MEMORABLE MEAL YOU’VE HAD LOCALLY… All Bar One on the High Street in Guildford; it’s nothing fancy, but the tapas is great. I headed there for food after the semifinal win last season with my team mate Rach Dunn and Storm Assistant Coach Naomi Taylor. I knew we were going to do something special that year, and I remember stuffing our faces chatting about the game and the prospect of the final. It just makes me smile, I still go back there now even on my own to grab a quick tapas lunch.

FAVOURITE PLACE FOR A NIGHT OUT WITH FRIENDS… These days with three evenings a week taken up training and a toddler, nights out are limited! I love getting all the girls over for dinner and a gossip, but if we’re heading out then I enjoy going back to Bath for a night out. I lived there for six years and it’s where I went to University. We recently went there on a hen party and it hasn’t changed. So much fun!

FAVOURITE SPOT FOR SOME RETAIL THERAPY… That’s easy – Westfield London. I never come home empty-handed, I just love that place, I go for the movies, dinner, as well as shopping. I bought a top there for the recent Sky Netball Launch and my dress for BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

BEST PLACE FOR A NIGHTCAP… The Bench Bar at Surrey Sports Park in Guildford, this is no joke. I’m often found  in there after training at 10.30pm chilling out before I go home. I can never go to sleep straight after training, my mind buzzes too much, so I sit there and chill out before going home.

FAVOURITE LOCAL DISCOVERY… Pirbright Park and my local pub The White Hart. I spent all of October exploring the woods with Jamie looking for imaginary fairies and friendly bears and playing on the tall slideshutterstock_84971917, which all the kids love. Then we’d finish off with lunch at the pub, where the food is always great.

FAVOURITE PLACE TO SOAK UP SOME CULTURE… I try to take Jamie to London as much as possible, as there is always something going on. Recently we went to London Zoo and The Natural History Museum to see the dinosaurs. I also do an annual trip to the West End with my mum to watch a musical; I’ve booked to see Aladdin in May.

BEST SPOT FOR A FAMILY DAY OUT… Odds Farm in Beaconsfield is a hit with my little one, as well as Coral Reef Waterworld in Bracknell Forest; she’s obsessed with pirate ships!

Sky Sports’ biggest ever season of netball begins with live coverage of all three international matches between England and Australia followed by every round of the Vitality Netball Superleague.
